ANGELES CITY – This city’s Independence Day rites may have been simple, but not the message behind the speech of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr., which extols the city's health workers and frontliners.
Mayor Lazatin said this year’s commemoration of 122nd year of Philippine Independence Day is for all the frontliners who are unselfishly performing their duties amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Ining aldong iti, buri kong saluduan reng keka tang kawani ampong magsilbi keng gobiernu ning siyudad Angeles, ila pu reng alang sawang kapagalan a magobra health workers, frontliners ampo reng backliners king panaun ning pandemya pauli ning COVID-19,” Lazatin said.
Today, I salute all the city hall employees, health workers, and backliners who are untirelessly working during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lazatin thanked the frontliners – including health workers, city government employees, and other backliners - who are giving their utmost time to extend their service for all Angeleños without any complaints.
“Dakal a dakal pung salamat king eyu peburen at sinikap yung masalese la kabilian reng Kabalen tang Angeleños,” he offered.
Thank you to all of you, you have helped me to ensure the welfare of every Angeleños.
He looked back on those days when the city government carried out a house-to-house distribution of assistance in each of the city's 33 barangays. City Hall employees have been the backbone of the city government in extending a helping hand to constituents, Lazatin says.
“Eko naman sinaingsing anyang panaun na kailanganan talang pamamuntalan reng bara-barangay ning Angeles para iyatad tamu kareng Kabalen tamu ing ayuda para karela,” he added. “Balu yu po, ikayu ing meging kakampi ku para ayatad ta ing tune serbisyu kareng tau na alang pipilinan aldo't oras.”
You never complained in servicing, regardless of time and day, just to distribute via house-house in every 33 barangay the assistance for your fellow Angeleños. I have great allies behind my back.
The City Government held a simple and short ceremony for the 122nd Philippine Independence Day celebration in front of the Museo ng Kasaysayang Panlipunan ng Pilipinas, where Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, Museo ng Kasaysayang Panlipunan ng Pilipinas Curator Bettina Arriola, Rural Health Unit Dr. Verona Guevarra, Tourism Officer Anneleen Sugui, Otu David from City Council, members of the Environment Management System and Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, officers from the Angeles City Police Office, and officials from the Bureau of Fire Protection were present.
Meanwhile, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines Board said the 1st Philippine Independence was celebrated at the Holy Rosary Church atrium on June 12, 1899, based on new information published in La Independencia, a revolutionary newspaper founded by General Antonio Luna.
