ANGELES CITY – Thirty dogs living in deplorable conditions around the city were rescued and brought to safety.

This after Lazatin’s Chief Adviser and Tactician Director IC Calaguas received various reports of animal cruelty.

With this, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. is urging Angeleños to be humane towards animals.

“Tulad na ning pangangalaga tamu karing karapatan da ring tau, dapat dinan tala ring pansin ding pangangailangan at karapatan da ring alaga tang hayup,” he said.

Calaguas coordinated with Mayor Lazatin’s Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel to immediately locate the dogs.

Manuel formed teams from the City Veterinary Office, led by Dr. Christian Arcilla, to conduct a rescue operation for the animals.

With the city dog impound at full capacity, Calaguas and Manuel, known animal loverd themselves, offered to temporarily house the 30 rescued dogs at their farm.

After nursing them back to health, the said dogs will then be put up for adoption, Calaguas furthered.

“Sisiguraduhin natin na maayos yung kalusugan nung mga rescued dogs at mabigyan muna sila ng anti-rabies vaccine bago natin sila ipa-adopt,” IC said.

This is not the first time the city government has conducted a rescue operation for maltreated dogs in the city.

Last February, Mayor Lazatin also ordered the inspection of puppy breeders and sellers along the vicinity of Apo Church, Jenra Mall, Ospital Ning Angeles, and Fil-Am friendship bridge.

Lack of proper documentation showed the breeders were conducting illegal selling of the animals, prompting the city government to take action.

Manuel said the Lazatin administration considers animal welfare as one of its priority programs.

“Nag-allot ng P10 million si Mayor Lazatin para makapagpagawa tayo ng state-of-the-art pet compound na mayroong laboratory clinic at nursery for animals,” she said.

Furthermore the city government has also set aside ₱6 million for the free neutering (spay/castration) of 1,000 cats and dogs, as well as anti-rabies for 30,000 pets in the city.
