ANGELES CITY – In its continuing efforts to help Angeleños during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Angeles City government conducted an on-the-spot job hiring on July 24, 2020.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. said the job fair was conducted in cooperation with Starboard Manpower Services Inc., reiterating that one of his priority programs is to provide job opportunities to Angeleños.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, who supervised the said job fair with the Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office (ACEDIPO), said over 300 applicants trooped to the Session Hall, City Hall compound, bringing with them hopes of landing a job that can help them survive these trying times.
According to Manuel, of the applicants who brought in their requirements, 233 were considered qualified.
The qualified applicants will have their final interview on Monday, July 27, she added.
Moreover, Irish Bonus-Llego, ACEDIPO officer-in-charge, also explained that once qualified applicants are accepted, they will undergo a month-long training with pay.
She also said that after completing the training, they will be on probationary status for one year, before fully being given a regular status.
Once regularized, they will receive a number of benefits including SSS, Philhealth, Pag-Ibig, complete with a health insurance, she added.
Meanwhile, 42 of the applicants who did not qualify in the on-the-spot job hiring did not leave in vain, as they will be referred to future job openings of other companies.
As part of his ongoing response to the challenges brought about by COVID-19, Mayor Lazatin appealed to the local business sector to prioritize hiring Angeleños when they re-open their respective businesses.
“Nakipag-usap ako sa mga may-ari ng hotels, restaurants, at ibang business establishments na sana kapag nagbukas na sila, dapat 80% ng workforce nila, manggaling pa rin dito sa Angeles,” Mayor Lazatin said.
The Mayor also thanked Starboard Manpower Services Inc. in its effort to help the Angeleños, especially in these trying times.
