ANGELES CITY – Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel turned over 150 bags of organic fertilizers, 30 bags of white corn seeds and 10 bags of yellow corn seeds to the city’s 40 farmers, as part of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr.’s support to the corn production program of the Department of Agriculture Region III.
Manuel was assisted by City Agriculture Office Head Erickson Dagdag during the distribution to the farmers' representative, Emmanuel Paras, from Barangay Pulungbulu.
Manuel said that part of the priority programs of Mayor Lazatin is to preserve the city’s agriculture.
“Parte po ito ng programa ni Mayor Lazatin upang tulungan ang ating mga farmers dito sa siyudad. Nais po ng siyudad na maipagpatuloy nila ang kanilang kabuhayan, kahit pa nagka-pandemya,” Manuel added.
“All-out-support po ang city government sa ating mga farmers, na isa rin sa mga naapektuhan ang kabuhayan,” she said.
In fact, locally-produced green arabica beans of Angelen?o farmers have been displayed at the One Town One Product store of the city government and are up for sale.
As soon as Mayor Lazatin took office, free seedlings and fertilizers are given free which can be availed at the City Agriculture Office.
To recall, during the lockdown, free seeds were included alongside food packs given to residents in the city's 33 barangays.
Mayor Lazatin also launched the adopt-a-rotunda community vegetable garden and the Luntiang Lingap sa Barangay project, both sustainable programs for food security amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last Aug. 27, 2021 the city government also distributed garden equipment and 750 bags of organic fertilizers to the 30 stewards serving as caretakers of the watershed in Barangay Sapangbato.
The reforestation in the 56-hectare watershed is being overseen by Lazatin’s Chief Adviser IC Calaguas with City Environment and Natural Resources Office and Abacan River Angeles Watershed Advocacy Council Inc. led by President Renato "Abong" Tayag and Vice Pres. Sonny Dobles.
