Mayor Carmelo "Pogi" Lazatin Jr. has ordered the creation of bike lanes in a bid to promote a "bike-friendly" city and to ease traffic by allowing residents to use an alternative mode of transportation.
The local chief executive has instructed the City Engineer's Office, headed by Engineer Donato Dizon, to conduct an initial ocular of the city’s main roads to determine the best areas to install the said bike pathways.
“Ang instructions ni Mayor Lazatin both national and City roads ay dapat magkaroon ng bike lane,” Dizon said.
The project aims to lessen the traffic in the city by encouraging residents to take up biking as a cheaper and healthier mode of transportation.
The installation of bike pathways is also in line with the city government’s programs for the environment, according to Chief Adviser and Tactian IC Calaguas.
Bikes have also proven to be very useful for front liners since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with transport options being limited.
