ANGELES CITY – Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. has turned over 3,200 tablets to City College of Angeles (CCA) to assist the scholars in their educational learning amid the pandemic.
The said tablets, which will be used exclusively for their online classes, and will be returned by the end of the Academic School Year 2020-2021, were personally received by CCA President Richard Daenos on November 3, at the City Library.
Assisting Mayor Lazatin during the distribution of tablets were Mayor’s Office Record’s Section Head Jermaine Jam Aguila, Information and Communication Technology Division Officer-in-Charge Michael Lising, and Mayor’s Office staff Anne Salonga.
As part of the educational system’s transition to the new normal, a total of P15 million was allotted from the CCA’s budget for the said initiative, Mayor Lazatin said.
“This program is a part of our commitment in making sure that education is inclusive and that no student will be left behind,” he added.
Lazatin meanwhile clarified that the tablets will be considered as government property and the students will just have to borrow them from CCA’s library and return the borrowed device in good condition.
The city government, he said, also learned the lack of internet access of some students that is why he sought the support of the internet service providers operating in the city to give free high-quality internet access to the city scholars.
A total of 772 satellite units amounting to P20 million are being installed around the city to provide free internet service to all Angeleños, especially to students where they will have their own internet access cards.
Moreover, the city government has also purchased 55,000 tablets for Grades 4-12 students in 53 public schools throughout the city, and 2,997 tablets for public school teachers, amounting to P194 million under the Special Education Fund (SEF) surplus.
To date, a total of 21,945 tablets have been distributed already to 21 elementary and secondary public schools.
