ANGELES CITY – At least 330 women from the 33 barangays here are the beneficiaries of the livelihood assistance program of the city government, as Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. wants to provide an alternative source of income for those who have been greatly affected by the pandemic.
“Maliit lang po na bagay ito, but we vow to provide the necessary assistance to all sectors of the community to help them cope up with the adverse effects of the pandemic,” Lazatin said.
“Tuloy-tuloy po ang mga ganitong klase ng programa mula sa city government. We will try to provide continuous assistance to everyone, especially our financially-challenged kababayans,” he said.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel shared that the said livelihood assistance consists of a pangkabuhayan showcase worth P1,000 of frozen products from RMM cold storage and meat shop such as tocino, hotdog, skinless, longganisa, and fries.
Manuel also thanked the cold storage and meat shop for assisting the city government in this livelihood program.
Gender and Development (GAD) Officer Mina Cabiles explained that 10 qualified beneficiaries were selected from each barangay to receive the pangkabuhayan showcase.
They are members of the Kababaihan, solo parents, street sweepers, Persons with Disability (PWD), and indigent families.
Mina Timbang, a street sweeper in Barangay Balibago, said this assistance would give extra income for her family.
“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa city government, lalo na kay Mayor Lazatin, sa pagbibigay ng pangkabuhayan showcase na ito. Malaking bagay ito sa pagtulong sa aking pamilya, lalo na ngayong may pandemya,” she said.
According to Cabiles, this program initiated by Mayor Lazatin and part of the city’s Women’s Month celebration with the theme 'Juana Laban sa Pandemic: Kaya!' also aims to empower the welfare of the women in the city.
Meanwhile, Angelita Rivera, President of Kababaihan in Barangay Mining, commended the Lazatin administration for recognizing the significant contribution of women in community development.
“Sumasaludo po ako sa pagkilala at importansyang binibigay ni Mayor Lazatin para sa aming mga kababaihan, at sa patuloy na pagsulong mga programang nangangalaga sa aming kapakanan at karapatan,” she said. ---Photos by Juan Carlo Gueco
