ANGELES CITY – The city government on October 5, 2020 is currently testing its free wi-fi program for residents in Barangay Pulung Cacutud and Barangay Cutud.
To date, there are already 7 active access points in Northville Barangay Cutud, and 3 active access points in Barangay Pulung Cacutud.
“Sa kasalukuyan, mayroon na po tayong 7 active access points sa Northville Cutud at 3 active access points sa Pulung Cacutud, na maari nang gamitin ng mga residente dito, simula ngayong araw,” Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. said in his regular weekly city address on October 5, 2020 via the City Information Office Facebook page.
A total of 772 satellite units will be installed around the city, in order to provide free internet service to all Angeleños, amounting to P20 million.
“Hindi po titigil ang city government, hangga’t hindi nalalagyan ng active access points ang lahat ng 33 barangays sa siyudad,” Lazatin assured his constituents.
In order to ensure that fast and reliable internet access will be provided to students and teachers, the city government will also issue internet access cards for them.
Mayor Lazatin explained the importance of prioritizing the teachers and students’ internet service, is to avoid disruption of online classes due to fluctuating internet connection.
“Importanteng maayos at mabilis ang magagamit na internet ng mga estudyante at guro, upang maseguro na hindi maantala ang online classes nila,” Lazatin furthered.
Mayor Lazatin’s Chief Adviser and Tactician Director IC Calaguas said that the city government initially planned to just provide internet access for students and teachers, but eventually decided on giving free WiFi to all residents in the city.
Calaguas also mentioned the guidelines and procedure on how residents can avail of the city’s free WiFi service.
First, a resident needs to connect his/her WiFi settings in “Angeles City Free WiFi”
Second, he/she needs to go to his/her browser and type URL “connect(dot)socifi(dot)com”
Third, log on to the wi-fi using your personal social media account or email to be connected.
Each resident will be connected for 30 minutes per log in. After that, they can repeat the same procedure if they want to use the free wi-fi longer.
The step by step procedure can also be found on the City Information Office Facebook page, Calaguas said.
Calaguas added that the city’s free wi-fi project is made possible thru their partnership Pil-Chi Telecoms, Inc. and local provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc.
