ANGELES CITY - More than three decades in service and still counting, she has been exposed to different calamities. While growing up, her heart was already taken by social service.
Born in Aurora province, 59 year-old Edna Duaso, fondly called "Joy" by her friends, found "real joy" through the mantra "to serve and to care" for the marginalized sector.
She is currently the City Social Welfare and Development Officer-in-Charge of the Angeles City Government.
In 1991, when Mt. Pinatubo erupted, she dedicated herself to rescuing and helping several Aeta communities and other vulnerable sectors in Angeles City.
She graduated College from the Wesleyan University Philippines in Cabanatuan City, without realizing what was about to happen in the next chapters of her life.
"Trust the process," she said. Independent and just in her 20s, she applied what her parents taught her: to know the value of hard work.
That is why, she has amazingly commended the hard work of Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in showcasing their Gawang Angeleño.
More than the product, she said, is the dream of every MSMEs to introduce their world-class locally-made products.
"I remember," she reminisced, "when I was a child, I wanted a bicycle. My parents had the capacity to give it, but they imparted a lesson in me that 'nothing comes for free,' that everything has value, and you should work for it to reach it."
Joy said she will continue to help the MSMEs in the city by sharing the value in every Gawang Angeleño products to her kababayans.
