ANGELES CITY — Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. and the Angeles City government during the Department of Interior and Local Government’s Webinar Series (DILG) – “ANGAT LGU: Jumpstarting the Economy.”
The DILG, in partnership with the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP), conducted these webinars to guide local government units (LGUs) as the country recovers from the impacts of the COVID-19 and transitions to the new normal. Mayor Lazatin was invited as a resource speaker with the topic “LGU support to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)”
NEDA Undersecretary Edillon highlighted the Angeles city government’s initiative on providing free internet for students and teachers for the start of their online classes this October 5.
“I want to thank si Mayor Pogi, sa mga naging initiatives niya. Isa sa mga nagiging obstacle talaga natin moving forward into the ‘new normal,’ is internet access. Nahihirapan ang mga telcos natin sa pag-put up ng mga tower cell sites dahil hindi sila pinapayagan. This is really important, kawawa yung mga kababayan natin. Kailangan natin silang tulungan, tulad ng ginawa ni Mayor Lazatin for Angeles City,” Edillon said.
According to Mayor Lazatin, the city government is currently installing 772 satellite units around the city, to help provide free internet not only to students and teachers, but eventually to all the residents of the city.
“Tuloy-tuloy ang pakikipag-usap natin sa mga local internet providers dahil gusto nating mabigyan ng maayos at libreng internet access, hindi lang mga estudyante at guro, pero kung magagawan natin ng paraan, lahat ng Angeleños mabigyan natin ng free internet,” Lazatin explained.
