ANGELES CITY – Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. has ordered the addition of sign language or subtitles in the official news programs of the city government, Lingkod Bayan and Serbisyong May Puso, for the needs of people with different abilities.
This is also pursuant to Section 22 of Republic Act 7277 also known as the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons as indicated in Mayor Lazatin’s released Memorandum No. 1028, Series 2021.
“In this medium, we could communicate more with our Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) community regarding the government announcements and latest happenings and issues around the city,” Lazatin said.
“With the insertion of sign language and subtitles in our city’s news programs, we could reach their community by providing a medium they best understand,” he explained.
According to City Information Officer-in-Charge Arnel San Pedro, the pilot episode for the news broadcast with sign language or subtitles will start on July 11 in the Serbisyong May Puso program, 6 PM via City Information Office Angeles City Facebook page.
Alma Vital, the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO) Head, said one of the members of PWD community will be assigned to use sign language in the news programs.
To date, there are 8,925 members of the PWDs community in the city.
