ANGELES CITY – With the aim of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. to protect all members of the Senior Citizen community against Covid-19, two mobile buses will be deployed around the 33 barangays here to vaccinate 462 bedridden elderly at the comfort of their homes.
Mayor Lazatin said the two mobile buses – one owned by the city government and one lent by the city’s Korean Community – are expected to be operational in six to eight weeks.
Inside the mobile buses will be vaccinators and doctors from the City Health Office and Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center with medical equipment and designated support staff.
According to Lazatin, the mobilization of mobile buses vaccination to elderly will serve as preparation for his goal to conduct house to house inoculation and to reach Angelen?os residing in far-flung areas such as Barangays Sapangbato and Margot.
“Kung kailangan ako mismo ang kumatok sa bahay ng ating mga senior citizens kamukha ng taon taon kong ginagawa upang mabakunahan silang lahat, ay hindi po ako magdadalawang isip gawin yun,” he said.
“Ito ay para po maseguro na ligtas ang ating mga senior citizens lalo na ang mga ginupo na ng iba’t-ibang karamdaman,” Lazatin added.
The seniors group is the second priority group to be vaccinated, based on the released guidelines of DOH.
To date, out of the 49,964 members of the elderly population in the city – 12,412 seniors received their first dose of vaccine, while 262 are already fully-vaccinated.
The vaccination to the priority group of senior citizens is still ongoing via schedule.
“They are the most susceptible to the virus, that is why we are gearing up our efforts to vaccinate all the seniors in the city as soon as possible,” he reiterated.
Mayor Lazatin also thanked the city's Korean Community for its assistance to the city government, in delivering easier and accessible vaccination roll-out to the bedridden seniors.
It can be recalled that in November 2020, the 462 bedridden seniors received P2,000 cash assistance and calcium carbonate supplements via door-to-door delivery.
He started this program in 2019 as fulfillment to his campaign promise.
Amid the pandemic, the city government also carried out a house-to-house distribution of Vitamins C to 25,000 indigent senior citizens.
