DENR: ANGELES CITY WASTE TRANSFER STATION AMONG THE BEST IN CENTRAL LUZON

ANGELES CITY — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region III Ecological Solid Waste Management (ESWM) Pampanga Focal Person Yves Yshmael Balagtas has recognized the Angeles City Waste Transfer Station located in Barangay Capaya as one of the best in Central Luzon.

Balagtas added that the Angeles City Waste Transfer Station meets and even exceeds environmental standards, noting that the facility is well-maintained, clean, and orderly.

His statement comes after City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Jenifer Castro and Environmental Management System Head Francis Pangilinan invited the DENR to inspect the facility following a complaint from Barangay Capaya Kagawad Rio Rapada regarding alleged foul odor and noise from garbage trucks.

On March 5, 2025, Castro, Pangilinan, Balagtas, and DENR officials—including Environmental Monitoring Officer Elyza Evilla, and ESWM Staff Jun Guillermo—conducted an on-site inspection alongside Rapada to assess the facility’s compliance.

The DENR will release a full report in the coming days.

Pangilinan assured that organic-based disinfectant is regularly sprayed on all garbage trucks to neutralize odors, while drivers have been instructed to disable beeping sounds to reduce noise.

The transfer station in Barangay Capaya was established to streamline waste collection and improve sanitation citywide.

Mayor Carmelo "Pogi" Lazatin Jr. said its operations are key to enhancing waste management efficiency and reducing garbage buildup on major roads.
