Lazatin to award Medal of Excellence to Outstanding Students

ANGELES CITY – In pursuit of elevating educational projects and recognizing outstanding students both in academic and extracurricular activities in the city, Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr. is to award a Medal of Excellence to high performing students from both private and public schools here.

According to Lazatin, the awarding of the Medal serves as a continuation of his father’s legacy, the late former Angeles City Mayor and Pampanga 1st District Representative Carmelo ‘Tarzan’ Lazatin.

“It’s important that we recognize outstanding students who are top performers in both academics and extracurricular because it serves as a motivation for them and everyone else to continue valuing education,” said Lazatin.

Aside from the Medal of Excellence, awardees will also receive a Certificate of Recognition and Financial Assistance that shall be claimed at the Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO).

The criteria to receive the Medal of Excellence is as follows: 40% for outstanding performance in Mathematics, Science, Computer/Information Technology, and English; 25% for Organization/Participation within the campus and outside the campus; 15% for history of leadership; 10% for campus contribution; 5% for the call of the student body; and 5% for faculty’s preference.

Candidates for the medal must be chosen from a sample of the top 10 percent graduating students of an institution both in elementary and high school levels.

Only one recipient could be submitted by the school administration – one from the whole population of the graduating elementary batch and one from the finishing high school batch.

According to Lazatin, the Medal of Excellence serves to reflect the City Government’s dedication to provide quality education to Angeleños as part of his 6-point agenda. He furthered education is one of his priorities because it is through education does the city builds its foundation and cultivates its next set of leaders.

Recently, Mayor Lazatin began his distribution of electric fans to Day Care Centers in all 33 barangays.

He also turned over a P41.1 million building joint project with his brother, Pampanga 1st District Rep. Carmelo ‘Jon’ Lazatin II to Northville 15 Integrated School as some of the City Government’s endeavors in providing quality educational services in the city.
