ANGELES CITY – Amidst the rising spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country, transport groups in the city have vowed to disinfect their public transportation vehicles, and to take other precautionary measures against the virus.

In a meeting spearheaded by the Angeles City Traffic Development Office (ACTDO), officers from the Federation of Tricycle Operators Drivers Association (FEDTODA) and Pangkalahatang Samahan ng mga Drayber sa Angeles City (PASADA) arrived with a coordinated initiative to also provide alcohol and hand sanitizers to their passengers. Moreover, drivers are advised to wear face masks.

The initiative is in support of the local government’s aim of strengthening the protection of the public against the virus.

According to Mayor Carmelo 'Pogi' Lazatin Jr., it is important for owners and operators of public transportation vehicles to take measures against the disease because these vehicles are a potential venue to spread the virus, given the daily commute of many people.

“The local government will do everything we can to prevent the virus from entering the city. Therefore we are beginning to address every source possible where the virus could enter, especially our public transportation system where many people gather daily,” said Lazatin.

Tarpaulins and other educational materials will also be posted on all transportation terminals to ensure public awareness about the disease.

Also present in the meeting are Sta. Teresita Kagawad Padz Bañola, Outside City Limit President Dan Yumul, and Public Transportation Regulatory Office (PTRO) Officer Jerome Feliciano.
