ANGELES CITY – Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin, Jr. has ordered the emergency purchase of 100 sacks of rice and 500 boxes of canned goods to augment the city’s food stockpile and assure there will be available supplies to indigent families.

The additional goods, according to the Mayor, is part of the City’s preparation in times of emergencies.

According to Lazatin, this is the effort of the City Government to achieve a ready and resilient city that would always have the means to provide for its people.

He furthered the city aims to deliver as much resources on the ground level such as food security in a drive to always be efficient and effective to the public.

“Whether there is an emergency or not, we would always want to have a total preparedness, assuring we have the ability to help Angeleños,” he said.

In addition, he wants to ensure that there will be no scarcity in supplies in the event of emergencies.

However, he is appealing to his constituents to let the City Government prioritize the indigent families.

He then mentioned in this time when the country is facing a public health emergency and crisis due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), it’s important for the public to stay calm and avoid hoarding products since it will not help to combat the disease.

Lazatin also shared bulk buying of products especially basic necessities would just deprive others the chance to provide for themselves, thus increasing the chances of spreading the disease.

Moreover, the ordering of emergency supplies follows the declaration of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte that Local Government Units (LGUs) are encouraged to use alternative methods of procurement especially in times of urgent cases.

It can be recalled that the President expressed his dismay over the delay of purchasing of emergency goods during the Marawi crisis. With this, he immediately signed the Executive Order No. 34 for the government’s alternative methods for procurement.
