ANGELES CITY – Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin, Jr. orders the preparation of 20,000 emergency food packs to be distributed to the poorest of the poor in the City in case of lockdown.
Lazatin ordered the emergency purchase of 2,000 sacks and 2,000 boxes of canned goods for the city’s food stockpile.
With all of the business establishments shutting down, the lower-income families and hourly workers are greatly affected by the coronavirus pandemic, and their food security should be prioritized, Lazatin said.
Through this, Lazatin already instructed Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel to coordinate with the members of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) for the list of indigent families in the City. He also asked the barangay captains to cooperate with the City Government to ensure that food packs will be personally received by beneficiaries.
Each food assistance contains 4 kilos of rice and 10 canned goods, which is good for a family of five person for four days.
“During this outbreak,” Lazatin said, “apart from ensuring public safety, preparedness should be also the topmost priority.”
Moreover, Chief Adviser Irish Calaguas is urging the public to stay calm and avoid flying off supermarket shelves to hoard food supplies. Instead, take precautionary measures by ensuring personal cleanliness and limiting unnecessary travels outside.
