February 17, 2017 - 03:53 pm

ANGELES CITY- The new set of Association of Local Colleges and Universities – Region 3 (ALCU-3) ambassadors were crowned on Thursday to highlight the culmination of the regional academic and cultural competitions this year in this host city.

During the grand coronation night held at the City College of Angeles (CCA) Quadrangle, Angela Gene Valdez of the Pambayang Dalubhasaan ng Marilao and Kenn Paolo Dela Cruz of Norzagaray College bested other 16 candidates and emerged as this year’s title holders.

To close the three-day fete, CCA President Dr. Richard Daenos expressed his warm thanks to the participating schools who have made the realization of staging the said regional festivity in CCA.

“We might have ended our annual meet for this year, but the values, experiences, and the glory we gained for our schools through our line-up of activities are things that we can cherish forever,” said Dr. Daenos.

Professor Ferdinand Isleta of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) during his keynote speech said that the agency will further look into partnering with state colleges and universities to uphold its advocacy of promoting and preserving local culture, tradition and arts.

“We are elated to see that the theme of this year’s regional meet focuses on culture and arts. This shows that we are proud of our race, of how we treasure and continue to pass on our intangible heritage such as our customs, values and talents to our younger generations,” said Isleta.

The festivity, with the theme “Pilipino ako, Ipinagmamalaki ko!” aims to instil the value of patriotism, uphold national creativity and sense of camaraderie among ALCU-R3 member schools.

Winning female candidates also include Camille Arcega of Kolehiyo ng Subic as first runner-up; and Melissa Abuan of the City College of Angeles as second runner-up. Joseph Carlos of the City College of Angeles and Paolo Cordero of Mabalacat City College landed first and second runners up respectively.

ALCU-R3 is the organization of state colleges and universities in the whole of Central Luzon. The body aims to improve the quality of instruction, research and extension of its member schools, and to provide quality tertiary education, especially to the poor and underprivileged youth.

This is the second time that CCA hosted the said ALCU regional competitions.
