Angeles City towards becoming PH’s next smart city

October 19, 2017 - 10:38 am

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan in his recent State of the City’s address announced that Angeles City is taking its first few steps towards becoming a smart city citing the provision of providing affordable fiber optics internet connection to more than 30,000 households and the optimization of the city’s  e-governance portal.

“The most precious commodity in the world today is not gold, but information,” said Mayor Pamintuan.

Pamintuan also said that Dennis Uy, President and CEO of Converge ICT Solutions, had promised him to connect the whole Angeles City to the world through Internet within the span of one year.

The monthly subscription internet cable fee will be trimmed down to P500 pesos for the 70% of the households in the area.  Meanwhile, the people residing in resettlement areas can also access the prepaid unlimited Wi-Fi Internet connection for only P100 pesos.

Moreover, the city also eyes electronic processing to some government documents online using the e-governance portal www.angelescity.gov.ph.

“The traditional transactions were now enhanced into electronic processing. With these developments Angelenos can conveniently apply different government permits online which are hassle-free and time-saving,” Pamintuan said.

Public information and different forms are also posted in the city’s portal, including the budget and financial reports of each department and downloadable forms from different office.

On the other hand, the mayor stressed in his speech that the P70 million command center, had already been opened since July 19.

Mayor Ed also said that Angeles City is the first LGU to come up with such facility in the province.

He elaborated that facility will ensure the peace and security, even the safety of the people from the upcoming calamities, because this facility uses the latest technology in terms of surveillance such as the fiber optics technology and high definition CCTVs which are already installed in public places, and major roads and highways of the city.

“This technological advancement in the city is expected to produce a great output. If that happens, Angeles city will not only be the smartest city in the country but will also be the most informed and smartest people in the country,” Pamintuan said.
