Angeleñas name EdPam “Father of Mutya ning Angeles”

ANGELES CITY - Past and current winners of the Mutya ning Angeles (MNA) reunited on November 3 at the Angeles University Foundation Sports and Cultural Complex (AUF-SCC) to celebrate the 25th founding year of the beauty pageant.

The ‘reunion’ show, which was graced by MNA winners from 1993 to 2016, highlighted a special tribute to Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan naming him as the ‘Father of Mutya ning Angeles’.

MNA 1993 Cristina McCoy expressed her gratitude on behalf of all the MNA beauty queens and took the opportunity to thank the man behind the success of the beauty pageant.


McCoy presented the recognition to Mayor Pamintuan for his steadfast support for Mutya ning Angeles pageant and for his initiative in creating a platform for Angeleñas to showcase their beauty, talent, and wisdom to the city and for his unwavering commitment to empower young women through the pageant’s goals.


One of the goals of the pageant  is to identify young Angeleña who shall become the city’s ambassador of tourism and goodwill possessesing charm and beauty, wit and pleasing personality, that is worthy of emulation for every Angeleño.


MNA winners from 1993 to 2016 conferred the awarding of appreciation to Mayor Pamintuan.


In an interview with MNA 1993 McCoy, she was asked to identify the difference between the pageant in her time and the current MNA pageant.


“The pageant during my time was quite different because we were all on the process of recovery. Our city was destroyed by the calamity and covered by lahar brought by the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo,” McCoy said.


The Mutya ning Angeles beauty pageant was conceived during the incumbency of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan in 1992 during the time when the city was mending from the cataclysmic Mt. Pinatubo eruption.


Aside from the Mutya ning Angeles, the Fiestang Kuliat and the Tigtigan Terakan Keng Dalan which are also celebrating their 25th anniversary, were all brainchildren of Mayor Pamintuan.
