ANGELES CITY- Angeles City Mayor and League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) President Edgardo D. Pamintuan is in New York, USA, to attend a two-day High Level Meeting of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly to discuss the effective implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the positioning of UN-Habitat in accordance with the General Assembly resolution 71/256.
The meeting will take place in the Trusteeship Chamber, UN Headquarters. It will provide member states and other stakeholders an opportunity to reflect on implementation of the New Urban Agenda and share best practices and success stories in relation to its implementation.
Prior to this conference, Pamintuan was also invited to speak before the Habitat III Conference in Quito, Ecuador held on October 21, 2016 where the New Urban Agenda was formalized. This Agenda sets a new global standard for sustainable urban development and will help in re-thinking the way how cities are planned. Managed and made livable. It is a roadmap for building cities that can serve as engines of prosperity and centers of cultural and social well-being while protecting the environment. It provides guidance for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and provides the underpinning for actions to address climate change.
