Statement of Mayor Edgardo D. Pamintuan (President, League of Cities of the Philippines)

August 02, 2017 - 08:48 am
We are very much aware of the President's strong policy and the league had been
firm on its stand against illegal drugs since its inception in 1989. Seven months
ago, the President met with our country's mayors informing and warning us that he
will spare no one in his war against drugs and corruption.
The LCP is a staunch advocate of the rule of law and opposes the proliferation of
illegal drugs. We support the President's war on drugs. It is incumbent that
Mayors and all LGUs for that matter abide by this policy to protect our people
from this continuing menace. What happened in Ozamiz City surprised and saddened
us mayors as it did to ordinary citizens. Considering that we still have to
receive a complete report from the PNP, we assume regularity in the performance of
CIDG in enforcing the legal court order and the consequences of its action.
The Ozamiz incident is a grim warning that those who persist in illegal drug trade
will only reap what they have sowed. We now call on local officials who feel to be
under the radar in the anti-drug campaign to clear themselves to avoid a repeat of
the incident.
May I stress that we at the LCP all want our cities free of drugs and crime.
