Location : Brgy. Lourdes Northwest, Angeles City

On March 28 and 29, 2013, the Angeles City Local Government through the Angeles City Tourism Office in partnership with Bgy. Lourdes Northwest and On Stage School for the Arts staged  Siete Palabras (Seven Last Words), a theatrical portrayal of Christ’s great sacrifice for mankind. On Siete Palabras’ third year, village chief Paul Ryan Puri and director Jayson Pabalan brought the traditional senakulo to a new level with the praise-worthy re-enactment of Christ’s passion by Uyat Artista’s talented, young performance artists. Held at the Arevalo Basketball Court, the Last Supper was presented in the evening of Holy Thursday. The full cast re-enactment continued in the afternoon of Good Friday and moved towards the site of the Calvary (Golgotha) where the main event, Christ’s Crucifixion, took place at three in the afternoon.

The event drew devotees and spectators of approximately three thousand, of which were about a hundred foreign tourists and less than five hundred local visitors who braved the scorching heat to witness this unique, religious Filipino tradition. In between dramatic presentations, the crowd came to observe the rest of the annual Lenten scene marked by masked penitents bearing heavy crosses accompanied by a procession of bloodied flagellants. On Holy Week, Pampang road transformed into rows of makeshift stalls selling food and refreshments where visitors could stay and take in the rest of the local culture. – ACTO
