Angeles City Philippines – On Thursday, February 28, 2013, hundreds of young people from different school levels and members of the public flocked in one place for one reason – to celebrate local art and pride for culture.

The Angeles City Local Government through the Angeles City Tourism Office in partnership with Sinukwan Kapampangan and On Stage School for the Arts presented the Buenas Angeles Youth Arts Fest at the Museo Ning Angeles. The vision of the government and private partners in bringing art to the masses, inspiring youth to chase their passion, and creating a wholesome activity to fit every individual led them to this one-day celebration.

Three groups of lyre and drum beaters from the Angeles City National Trade School, Angels Band and Bonzon Band kicked off the morning by playing the latest dance craze. Members of the On Stage School for the Arts prepared activities to test the young participants’ memory, listening ability and interest during the Theater workshop and Storytelling.

Under the noontime heat, young Angeleño painters who are active in local and national contests and exhibits contributed to the handmade artworks. Armed with colored chalk, latex paint and spray paint, artists enjoyed interactive activities like wall art, 3D art, street art and doodle art, stone, face and body painting, and henna tattoo with the public.

The evening was packed with art performances. The On Stage School for the Arts showcased clothing fashioned out of recycled materials through BasuRampa.  The Sinukwan Kapampangan featured a performance of the Cordillera Suite (banga, salidsid, bumayah) and Mindanao Suite (malong and singkil) followed by a short dance workshop for free. Angeles and Pampanga-based youth bands played various types of music like reggae, rock, alternative and Pinoy rock.

This celebration is not just about the love for the art, self-expression, social acceptance and public influence.  It had to do more with the passionate creativity of our local youth as one of the many reasons to like about Angeles City.- ACTO
