Barangay Sapalibutad is located at the eastern part of Angeles City and is bounded on the north by Barangay Cutud. In the west by Barangay Pulung Cacutud, in the south by Barangay Capaya and in the east by Barangay Tangle, Mexico Pampanga.
The word Sapalibutad came from a Kapampangan/Pampango language which means Small creek, and was named to this Barangay. Because there was a small creek in the middle of the Barangay which is located on the boundary of Purok 2 – Sitio Centro and Purok 3 – Sitio Canatba. Many people coming on the said creek were taking a bath and washing their clothes everyday, which signifies a great source of clean water.
Barangay Sapalibutad presently consist of 11 Sitio/ Purok namely: Purok 1 – Sitio Cubul, Purok 2 – Sitio Centro, Purok 3 – Sitio Canatba, Purok 4 – Sitio Cabio Bakal, Purok 5 – Sitio Dungca, Purok 6 – Canata Ville, Purok 7 – Sitio New Site, Purok 8 – Sitio Resettlement, Purok 9 – J. Sanchez Compound, Purok 10 – Pavillion Relocation Site, Purok 11 – Sameera Subdivision.
In 18th century, Barangay Sapalibutad have only 5 Sitio/Purok namely: Sitio 1 – Cubul, Sitio 2 – Centrong Baryo, Sitio 3 – Lipat Sapa and now called Canatba, Sitio 4 – Cabio Bakal and Sitio 5 – Mauli Lele ilog bale Maragul. In 1972, when there is a 40 days rainy season, the Sitio 5 – Mauli Lele ilog bale Maragul was washed out because the river expanded and most houses were destroyed on said Sitio. Most of the residences of this Barangay are farmers, planting of rice and sugar cane and fishing in creek is the main livelihood of the people. The distance before we reach the Poblacion is a 7.5 kilometers and 1.5 kilometer distance going to the national road of Angeles and Magalang.
In 1991, when Mt. Pinatubo erupted, many residences are affected because their means of living such as rice and sugar cane were covered by Lahar, Purok 4 – Cabio Bakal was washed out due to the devastating mud flood. Because the said eruption some of the residences here in Sapalibutad were required to relocate to a place which now called Purok 6 – New Site.
In 1992, Mr. June Sanchez family and Mr. Gerard Heinen decided to invest a business here in Sapalibutad. They construct many buildings and the company was named NEOART CORP. many of their workers decided to reside here in Barangay Sapalibutad and a new purok was established which is called Purok 9 – J. Sanchez Compound.
In 2005, the City government under the administration of the former City Mayor – Carmelo Tarzan Lazatin relocated again some residence from Barangay Ninoy Aquino here in Sapalibutad and a new Purok was established which is called Purok 10 – Pavillion.
In 2008, Globe Asiatique Corp. invested a new business here in Sapalibutad by developing agricultural land into Industrial Subdivision the Purok 11 – Sameera Subdivision was established and donated a 2 storey building for the Barangay, which is now being used as the new Barangay Hall.
In 2009, Mr. Rogelio Ayson invested a new business here in Sapalibutad and constructed a Private Memorial Park and it was named St. Uriel Memorial Park which is located at Purok 4 – Cabio Bakal.
