Barangay Lourdes Sur East
In the middle part of Angeles, there was a barangay known by many as "Talimundok". This is the name given by the spaniards to our barangay. But there is no substantial proof regards with this claim.
Don Angel Pantaleon Miranda coined the term "Kuliat" in December 08, 1829. This was then the name of Angeles, Pampanga; the same year when Angeles became an independent city. Five(5) barrios were consisting the city during that period namely: Sto Rosario (Poblacion), Cutcut, Pampang, Pulung Anunas and San Nicolas. With that information, there were only 4,693 estimated people living here in the city. It was told that in 1897, the spaniard soldiers occupied Angeles for it was suspected to be the center of the so-called "rebellion" which they have proven.
Barangay Lourdes was thought to be one of the oldest barangays among others. The late Dr. Clemente N. Dayrit Sr. wa the first person who made an action to separate Barangay Lourdes from Barrio San Nicolas. From then on they called it "Lourdes" because Dr. Dayrit and his wife were devotees of "Our Lady of Lourdes" in France. The Dayrit family donated five-hundred hectares (500 ha) of land wherein a church had been built.
Two of the famous marks of the barangay are the public school situated inside the Dayrit Compound in 1912 and the ice plantation near the railroad in 1914.
Dr. Dayrit had once said that this barrio will become a subdivision. This subdivision became one of the oldest in 1925 which was divided into parts: Lourdes Sur East, Lourdes Northwest, Claro M. Recto, Virgen delos Remedios, Sta. Teresita, Agapito Del Rosario, Salapungan, Lourdes Sur, and Sto Cristo.
Within the 21.38 hectares of barangay Lourdes Sur East, there were 7,753 estimated people living during those times. And in 1990, 8,000 estimated people were said to be living here.
As of this time, the barangay is composed of five (5) puroks and nineteen (19) streets.
Some of the prominent establishments situated within the barangay are as follows: the Angeles University Foundation (AUF), the AUF Medical Center (AUFMC), the newly constructed AUF Sports and Cultural Center, Dr. Clemente N Dayrit Sr. Elementary School (CLEMENDES), the Angeles City Science High School (formerly SSC), Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Church, Police Station 06, the L.S.E. Health Center, the L.S.E. Day Care Center, L.S.E. Basketball Court, the Office of the Barangay Senior Citizens' Association (OSCA) and the L.S.E Barangay Hall.
With this, barangay Lourdes Sur East can be recognized as one of the few barangays having educational institutions from pre-elementary to tertiary level.
The L.S.E. Health Center is also known as the Rural Health Unit (RHU) III in Angeles City serving six (6) barangays aside from Lourdes Sur East.
The barangay hall contains the following offices: the Office of the Sangguniang Kabataan (2nd floor), the Office of the Punong Barangay, the Office of the Grupong Bantay Bayan, and the Office of the Administrative Officers.
The Office of the Grupong Bantay Bayan includes the Public Safety Assistance Desk, the Lupong Tagapamayapa Desk, and the Barangay Human Rights Action Center (BHRAO).
